The structure of looking is een verhaal over hoesten. In een tijd waarin hoesten meer hoesten uitlokt, verliest de hoofdpersoon haar vermogen om te spreken. In haar stille irritatie ziet ze de samenleving voor haar ogen verdwijnen.
Double You I A̶m̶ Was is een lecture performance die vertrekt op een speculatieve reis, in een poging om de (object)stem te situeren. Als eerste van vier bedrijven markeert het een overgangsritueel waarin één autoritaire stem overgaat in een ander.
Serene Hui, Siren (onderdeel van Scold, Gossip and Siren) (30')
Siren van Serene Hui werd origineel geschreven als deel van Scold, Gossip and Siren (Scheld, Roddel en Sirene). Deze performance haalt inspiratie uit historische verwijzingen naar de zang van sirenen en obscure vormen van spreken, en versterkt de ongewone of onherkenbare geluiden en talen. In deze performance brengt JJJJJerome Ellis fragmenten uit zijn album en boek The Clearing. The Clearing onderzoekt hoe stotteren, zwart-zijn en muziek ingezet kunnen worden als praktijken van verzet tegen dominante structuren die tijd, spraak en ontmoeting beheersen. Ellis speelt saxofoon en werkt met elektronica.

The structure of looking is a story about coughing. In a time when coughing triggers more coughing, the protagonist loses her ability to speak. In her mute irritation, she watches society disappear before her eyes.

Double You I A̶m̶ Was is a lecture performance that embarks on a speculative journey in an attempt to locate the (object) voice. As the first of four acts, it marks a rite of passage in which one authorial voice transitions into another.
Serene Hui, Siren as part of Scold, Gossip and Siren (30')Siren by artist Serene Hui was originally developed as part of Scold, Gossip and Siren. This performance draws on historical references to siren calls and obscure modes of speech, and amplifies unconventional or unrecognised sounds and languages.The artist invites flutist Mélodie Blaison to interpret fragments of a score she has written. The score is based on transcriptions, in Western classical notation, of 20th-century recordings of vocalisations that appear unrelated to any known human language. Excerpts from the original recordings are played through a speaker, while Mélodie on the flute attempts to follow the score.
Mélodie Blaison is a french artist, flutist and composer based in Brussels. Integrating her classical training with experimental and electronic production, her research is rooted in a desire to create narrative, immersive and sensory experiences.

In this performance, JJJJJerome Ellis shares excerpts from his album and book The Clearing. The Clearing asks how stuttering, blackness, and music can be practices of refusal against hegemonic governance of time, speech, and encounter. Ellis will play saxophone and electronics.
